OVERTURE – the new recruitment and learning model from Altura Learning, Cohesion and Care Friends

overture

/ˈəʊvətj(ʊ)ə/
noun

Overture definition:

1) An introduction to something more substantial

2) An approach with the aim of establishing a relationship

We all know that recruitment and retention of a highly engaged and skilled workforce is a challenge within our sector. This could be due to lengthy recruitment processes and inadequacy of the information available to those considering a career in care.

We also know that high levels of quality training have a positive impact on staff recruitment and retention. Providers investing more in the training and development of their staff, on average, experience a lower turnover rate. Recruitment is also an expensive business. Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) estimate that the average cost of recruitment is £2,000 to £5,000 so it’s important to get it right.

That’s why we’re working in partnership with Cohesion and Care Friends to design a best practice model, Overture, to collate industry best practice and develop a wider recruitment and retention strategy. Our sector sees 25 – 50% drop out during pre-employment; and we believe better engagement will improve this.

How are we testing the model?

    R

We are working with a leading care provider to introduce online learning during pre-employment stages of the recruitment process. Early feedback suggests that candidates enjoy having access to start learning early on in their new employment journey.

    R

We will be sharing case study results after the initial 6 months.

    R

We plan on evolving the model to offer this training during the application and assessment stage of recruitment and to ask for recommendations through the Care Friends App.

What are the benefits of the model?

    R

Saves time and money for providers if candidates self-deselect before starting.

    R

Better engagement and lower drop-out rates overall.

    R

New starters are more “job ready” on day one.

    R

Applicants are more likely to recommend friends as they have had a unique and positive recruitment experience that gives them confidence whilst they are being assessed and/or waiting to start.

Here’s some feedback of the model we’ve received so far:

    |

“The training was very straightforward and the website was very informative and easy to understand. The videos worked well and loaded quickly. Altogether a positive experience.”

    |

“I have found it most useful and really interesting and learnt a lot from the courses.”

    |

“The online training was very interactive, It was easy to comprehend and quick, the best bit was that it was not confusing compared to the other online trainings I have done previously.”
