Older people are at risk of weight loss due to a variety of factors. It is vital that staff understand how to monitor and manage weight changes by maintaining good nutrition and hydration in the community.

Dr Karen Abbey is a Foodservice Dietitian and Special Dietary Chef has worked extensively across the foodservice sector both here and overseas. Karen is the Director of Nutrition and Catering Consultancy and founder of the Nutrition and Catering Global Hub supporting those working in foodservices with resource and recipes. Karen as a foodservice dietitian runs a consultancy service promoting the quality in foodservices, foodservice system, training, menu planning/reviews, recipes development and finding practical solutions for those in care and working in foodservices. Karen chef speciality is working directly with aged care chefs and skills development in texture modification meals, food therapeutics and fortification. Karen has over 25 years of working in the foodservice industry, aged care, and community sector. Food is a vehicle for improved health and through innovations in foodservice can support increased quality care.
