The Challenge

As one of regional Victoria’s largest healthcare providers, Bendigo Health employs more than 10,000 people across acute, sub-acute, residential, community and regional services.
Like many regional health services, the organisation must balance increasing demand for care, workforce shortages, budget pressures and the need to maintain consistent, high-quality education across a large and diverse workforce.
Prior to expanding its use of Altura Learning, staff were required to complete learning across two separate learning management systems. This created unnecessary complexity for learners and administrators, increased administrative effort and fragmented learning records, while adding to the workload of already time-poor Clinical Educators.
With the implementation of a regional Learning Management System across the Health Service Network, Bendigo Health identified an opportunity to simplify learning delivery while continuing to provide trusted, high-quality clinical education.

The Solution

Rather than sourcing a new content provider, Bendigo Health chose to extend its existing partnership with Altura Learning.
Having already successfully used Altura’s aged care content within its residential services, Bendigo Health had confidence in the quality, clinical accuracy and regulatory alignment of the learning.
By integrating Altura’s SCORM-based content directly into its regional Totara LMS (GOLD), Bendigo Health created a single learning environment for staff across the organisation.
This removed the need to manage multiple systems and individual user licences, while giving learners one central record of their training.
Today, Altura Learning supports both mandatory compliance education and targeted learning where additional capability development has been identified.

The Results

Moving to a single learning platform has delivered significant operational and workforce benefits for Bendigo Health.
By hosting Altura content within its own LMS, the organisation has removed much of the administrative burden associated with allocating and managing individual licences during staff onboarding and offboarding.
This has enabled Clinical Educators to spend more time delivering practical, hands-on education and supporting frontline teams.
Staff now benefit from a simpler learning experience, with one platform, one learning record and streamlined compliance reporting.
The organisation also continues to benefit from:
  1. Reduced administration and simplified learning management.
  2. High-quality, evidence-based clinical education aligned to legislative and regulatory requirements.
  3. Flexible SCORM content that integrates into existing learning systems.
  4. Consistent learning delivery across multiple services and locations.
  5. Cost and time savings by reducing the need to develop education content internally.

Why Altura Learning?

For Bendigo Health, the decision to expand its use of Altura Learning was driven by confidence in both content quality and proven outcomes.
Altura’s clinically robust learning resources had already demonstrated their value within residential aged care, making them a natural choice to scale across the wider organisation.
Combined with strong customer support and a flexible implementation approach, Altura has helped Bendigo Health deliver a more streamlined, efficient and effective learning experience for both learners and educators.
“The quality and effectiveness of this training is excellent. Not having to create content in-house is far more cost and time effective. These modules and videos could be more widely used throughout the health service.”
