Course Description
Unsafe medication and medication errors are a leading cause of injury and avoidable harm in health care systems across the world. (WHO 2017) This is such a significant problem that the WHO set a target to reduce global harm from medicines by 50% from 2017-2020.
To make the most out of medicines for people’s health and to use resources wisely, we need to make sure that medication plans are right, not harmful or wasteful.
One in 5 prescriptions for older people living at home may be inappropriate.

Course Aim:
To optimise health outcomes and use healthcare resources responsibly, it’s essential that medication management plans are clinically appropriate, person-centred, and free from unnecessary or harmful treatments. This course will explore how care teams can play a critical role in safeguarding medication safety, recognising risks, and supporting best practice medication use for older people in aged care settings.
