Course Description
Older people are at risk of weight loss due to a variety of factors. It is vital that staff understand how to monitor and manage weight changes by maintaining good nutrition and hydration.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

* Discuss the factors that may lead to changes in weight and
hydration
* Explain how to assess for adequate nutrition and hydration
* Describe practical tips for staff to support an older person with

Dr Karen Abbey is a Foodservice Dietitian and Special Dietary Chef. She has over 25 years experience in the food service industry, including the aged care and community sectors, both in Australia and overseas. As Director of Nutrition and Catering Consultancy and founder of the Nutrition and Catering Global Hub, Karen supports those working in care and food services, promoting quality, systems, training, menu planning, recipe development and providing practical solutions. She also works with aged care chefs to develop their skills in texture modification, food therapeutics and fortification, using food as a vehicle for improved health and innovations in food service to support increased quality care.
